  • Retinal, retinol and retinoic acid (Vitamin A) are important to cell production and growth. Vitamin A also stimulates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for developing tissue that keeps skin firm and healthy in the deep layers of your skin. Because vitamin A and carotenoids play such a big role in cell and tissue growth, not getting enough can lead to weakened skin, causing problems ranging from dryness to wounds that heal more slowly. Vitamin A also helps to normalize the appearance of pigmentation. It does so by normalizing the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme that plays a vital role in the production of melanin.
  • Vitamin C also known as L-ascorbic acid has the ability to protect and strengthen the skin like no other. As an antioxidant, it provides protection from free radicals, helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, brightens and promotes an even skin tone. It also works to help shield the skin from free radical damage caused by environmental aggressors, while increasing protection against sun damage. Vitamin C is essential for cross-linking collagen molecules.
  • Niacin, also known as Vitamin B3 or nicotinic acid, is the little known vitamin that plays a big role in healthy hair growth. Niacin helps to maintain the structure of the blood cells and improves blood circulation. Niacin brings more blood flow to the scalp, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles. Research shows that Niacin can help keep aging skin firm and glowing. It may also improve acne or skin blemishes by increasing the moisture balance of skin. It helps maintain healthy hair growth and improve the look of skin.
  • Biotin, which plays a vital role in a number of metabolic functions in the body and as a beneficial component of enzymes, is one of the vitamins in the vitamin B complex and is also known as vitamin B7 or vitamin H. It is a water-soluble vitamin that is not stored in the body and must be continually replaced. Trichologists agree that biotin can help hair to grow stronger and possibly even thicker. The primary benefit of biotin for hair is that it allows stronger and healthier hair growth. Stronger hair is less likely to break off at the ends, promoting and protecting length.
  • Magnesium helps prevent calcium buildup on your scalp. When calcium clogs hair follicles, your scalp will be dry, flaky, and you could even see some hair loss. These calcium deposits on and around the hair follicles can increase over time due to scalp inflammation. Magnesium helps with protein synthesis. Since hair follicles are made almost entirely of protein, this is key. Better protein synthesis means healthier hair and a predictable hair cycle with normal growing and resting stages. Protein synthesis also helps create melanin, which helps prevent your hair from going gray.
  • Zinc is a vital mineral for healthy hair, skin and nails. Some experts believe that zinc deficiency actually can lead to deterioration of the protein structure that makes up the hair follicle. This weakening of follicles can in turn cause hair shedding and hair loss. Zinc is also believed to play a crucial role in DNA and RNA production. This is required for the normal division of hair follicle cells, leading to healthier hair growth.
  • Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in the body. Research shows there are more than 28 different types of collagen, but the three most abundant are Types I, II, and III. These collagen types form the structural fibrils of tissues, while the others take part in the association of these fibrils with other tissues. In addition to improving structural integrity and elasticity of the skin, the consumption of Types I and III collagen also improves skin’s ability to retain moisture and may fight UVB photodamage, which in turn promotes healthier and younger looking skin, according to studies.
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring organic sulfur compound. Sulfur is an extremely important compound as it forms disulfide bridge “links” between hair and skin proteins. MSM is found in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains. Researchers have also found that MSM has unique antioxidant effects and anti-inflammatory properties which may be helpful for inflammatory conditions such as hair loss. Inflammation is also a component in hair loss. Irritation of the scalp can cause itching, scratching, and further hair loss. Certain kinds of autoimmune such as alopecia areata or alopecia totalis hair loss also have a central inflammatory component. Reducing inflammation is central treatment of these hair loss conditions.
  • Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a popular weed that grows in many back gardens of Northern Europe, Asia, and America. It contains vitamin A, B, C, D and K, a high amount of iron, magnesium, potassium, calcium, silica, phosphorus, sodium, sulfur, and iodine, and a substantial amount of proteins and omega 3 fatty acids. These nutrients make nettles a great aid for the hair loss and other hair and scalp problems. Stinging Nettle has anti-inflammatory properties. A study showed that chronic inflammation damages hair follicles. Stinging Nettle extract can reduce the levels of the main inflammatory agent called NF-kB and therefore reduce inflammation and promote healthy hair.
  • Saw Palmetto is a plant native to the Caribbean and currently found in the southeastern United States. According to a 2019 review of complementary and alternative treatments for alopecia, saw palmetto is believed to work by inhibiting the activity of 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme involved in the conversion of the hormone testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is considered a key contributing factor to the onset and progression of androgenic alopecia. Saw palmetto also is believed to increase the activity of an enzyme responsible for the metabolism of DHT into androstanediol (a weaker androgen hormone).
  • Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a clear, gooey substance that is naturally produced by your body. The largest amounts of it are found in your skin, connective tissue and eyes. Hyaluronic acid works by acting as a cushion and lubricant in the joints and other tissues. In addition, it might affect the way the body responds to wound healing. Hyaluronic acid is well-known forit’s skin benefits. It helps alleviate dry skin which in turn reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When you combine collagen with a hyaluronic acid, you pack an anti-aging double punch. Collagen reduces wrinkles, quenches thirsty skin, and makes skin more supple.
  • Astaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment that occurs in trout, microalgae, yeast, and shrimp, among other sea creatures. It’s most commonly found in Pacific salmon and is what gives the fish its pinkish color. Astaxanthin is a very powerful antioxidant, many times more potent than vitamin E. This means that it can help to protect the skin, throughout the dermal layers, from the free radical damage that's partly responsible for the skin aging process. In addition, astaxanthin helps to protect the skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays, plus it improves the elasticity of the skin by aiding healthy skin cell function.
